On KTV and Teo Heng
Just got back from yet another wild ktv thrashing session @ Teo Heng.

It takes lots of chemistry and camaraderie to come out of ktvs, feeling like we have just conquered world and accomplished something great. I don’t profess to be a good singer (in fact I’m a noob-in-training) but I must admit I have k-buddies who can sing really well.

If we were to trace our ktv history..it goes quite f….a…….r. We started visiting ktv outlet at Delfi orchard back in our JC days as a class when ktv was still largely associated with lubsup bars and sleazy ktv hostesses. Then Ktv became a hot phenomenon and kbox, partyworld started opening many outlets and everyone began jumping on the bandwagon.

We sang often enough to know where certain songs could be found, which outlets have pirated MVs with midi sounds, out of sync lyrics or wrong MV images, and which drinks served at XX have to be avoided at all costs.

When we are in most comfortable state, we are able to unleash our potential like that big-bad-fox in Naruto, which otherwise lay dormant / underdeveloped during perfunctory and sluggish ktv sessions with strangers/ mass group ktv sessions, which I prefer to absent from nowadays. It becomes another boring session where everyone chooses to err on the safe side, selecting all the ‘wont go wrong’ songs to sing. Yawn.

The real fun only begins when people start to attempt insane delivery of songs. It doesn’t matter if you are able to pull it off; it’s the effort that counts. Hackneyed as it may sound: If you never try, you will never know.

We were able to produce some remarkable duets and occasional miracles like small dolphin wails (cos its mini 海豚音s, not fully developed yet haha) amidst all the confusion: visceral falsetto shrieks, guttural lascivious wails and inevitable走音s.

All in that mystical room number 10 at Teo Heng KTV.

Tonight.
We sang ‘My Way” around 6 times. or 7? We lost count. Lol.
We repeated songs from gary's n jay's repertoire to perform some PK. (PK= Player kill, in which we tried to outdo each other.)
We sang and we donned our pseudo 4 heavenly kings personas. Aiya but I think my Jaky is a flop, ha
We sang until our adjourning Ktv neighbours (some ang mohs) gave us the WTF-these-guys-r-doing look as they exited.
We sang until Teo Heng closed and wished we could continue till the break of dawn.

Alas, we are unable to escape our short-lived destiny like all successful groups, bands. I was touched because they all made it despite late lessons, sore throat and early lessons the following day, since it was our last sicko session together before I return to Singapore in Dec.

We ended off with our 4 men, PK , eclectic version of 不能说的秘密, which we recorded on Junping’s hp along with some other tracks. Haha.

不能唱的PK - 郑兴论剑,何时再战?十二月十号房。不见不散。

P.S.: Gabriel, thanks for fetching all of us back :)
